Foundation is a skin colored makeup applied to the face to create an even, uniform color to the complexion, to cover flaws and, sometimes, to change the natural skin tone. We have devised the following 6 tricks to achieve a flawless foundation base for your makeup.
6 Tricks for A Flawless Foundation Base
- Use a brush.
Using a foundation brush allows us to buff the foundation into the skin with light, circular motions. This technique also lets you use less product and build coverage, since it’s easier to add more foundation than to take off excess. A brush also evens out the foundation onto the face for a flawless finish.
- Mix and match formulas.
Finding that perfect foundation color can be oh so tricky. Everyone needs and wants something different and no two skin types are ever alike. Therefore, mixing and matching formula’s allows you to mix the texture. Since you know you will always be mixing the shades, you can choose one with a full coverage and one with a luminous finish, that way, you can get the best of both worlds.
- Prevent Creasing
There’s no magic formula that won’t crease fine lines, but there are techniques you can use to minimize creasing. For lines around the mouth, after applying foundation, you can go in with a fine brush and just remove the creased lines.
- Color correct deeper skin tones
Choosing the right color, one that is slightly lighter than your complexion, and one that is just slightly darker. This way, whether it’s summer or winter, you can always mix to find your exact right shade. It is very rare that your skin tone is right there in a bottle anyway. Brown skin tones often need to be prepped with an orange color corrector to counteract dark purplish tones around the mouth and under the eyes
- Applying foundation everywhere
Foundation is not just for your face, foundation can be applied to the legs and arms too to cover any bruises or scarring. It is important to know to blend your foundation past your jawline and onto the neck. Furthermore, many females blend a light layer of foundation over their eyelids and lips – these will help the eye shadow and lipstick shades to stand out even more!
- Use your highlighter before your foundation
Highlighter is a product that can completely change your beauty look. If applied correctly, it gives you that glowing look where people can’t place what’s different, just that you look amazing. When you’re choosing a highlighter you have to think about your skin tone; if you have very sallow skin, pink toned highlighters are going to stick out, but if you have very pale skin pink tones are perfect. Applying a highlighter before your foundation adds a glow to your skin complexion rather than it looking dull and matte.
